Waiting Child Services

More than 100,000 children in the United States are waiting for permanent, loving families. As an affiliate of the Pennsylvania Statewide Adoption & Permanency Network (SWAN), FHC can help you build your family through adoption of older children or those with special needs who are in the foster care system and are available for adoption.

How We Help

• Family Hope Connection is a licensed foster care and adoption agency.
• As a SWAN affiliate, we can provide a wide range of support services at little or no charge to families that adopt through the Pennsylvania foster care system.
• FHC also has a contract with Allegheny County to place children into foster/adoptive homes.
• FHC will work to identify children who are a possible match for your family, complete the state-required family profile and provide ongoing support.
• We work in collaboration with other adoption agencies to provide the required training (18 hours).

Meet the People We Help

• Tammie* and Kris* had been foster parents for a few years, and generally their foster kids stayed with them for just a few months before returning to the homes of their parents or other relatives. However, Tammie and Kris hoped to adopt one of their foster children, and Family Hope Connection caseworkers worked with them to prepare for that day.

• Sam* was a seven-year-old boy living with a foster family who ultimately hoped to adopt him. However, he started to demonstrate some troubling behaviors, like refusing to eat or do his homework. A Family Hope Connection child preparation worker used play therapy to uncover the underlying issues behind his bad behavior and engaged him in a number of activities that honored the transition.

• Mona*’s daughter and son-in-law, who live out of state, were dealing with infertility issues. Although the couple had not yet decided to consider adoption, Mona wanted to encourage them to do so and provide them with information on adoption resources. She called on Family Hope Connection for help.
